Alaska
"Alaska" was my first cat; he was white. One day, Alaska went from being my pet to becoming a subject for a possible portfolio shot. I saw him jump up on the windowsill in my bedroom and sit behind the lace curtain as the sun was setting. Something distracted him and he looked down; it was probably a little insect. My heart skipped a beat and I grabbed my camera. My photography professor and mentor, "TR", once challenged me to try to take a photograph in a very familiar place; within a few feet from where I sleep. This photograph has always represented that moment to me; when something out of the ordinary occurs in a place that you are accustomed to seeing every day. Kings Point, New York. August 1985.
